Our story

Topdekzeilen was founded back in 2003 by sailors who wanted better covers for their precious one-design Olympic dinghy. Back in the day, when the internet was upcoming, the first webshops were introduced, but in the sailing world everything seems to stay old-fashioned. You just would simply ring your local dealer, buy a way overpriced boatcover with a so-so fit and you even had to wait over 6-weeks before you even could pick-up (!) your cover. We were about to change that!

In 2002 we had made a few of our own boatcovers by hand in the garage and were using them on our own boat. When random people were starting asking where they could get that cover, we knew we were onto something!

In 2003 Topdekzeilen was born. In that time, we were mainly selling through our webstore against fair prices and way shorter leadtimes. Over the years we gained momentum and we were able to set-up our dealer network within the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, to expand across the EU. Furthermore, we developed new fabrics to be used for mass cover production which included our Bluetex, an acrylic based fabric, which was unseen for smaller one-design classes due to its assumed price point and we kept on increasing the number of one-design classes for which we deliver the main covers directly from our own stock.

Ultimately this led to Topdekzeilen being the current EU-market leader in one-design boatcover business with delivering a whopping 90+ different one-design classes from stock and that number is still increasing!
